ACHIEVE needed to work quickly to help a fledgling business survive at this backland site sandwiched between housing, when the council queried use of the site.  The client had misunderstood the lawful use of the site, albeit general industry had once operated from the site, long ago.

A retrospective planning application was made to retain this car servicing business, with specialist acoustic report commissioned from Venta Acoustics.  ACHIEVE also prepared rudimentary plans and drawings from a site survey to support the application to retain physical alterations made to the building.

A good number of local residents wrote in to support the application in view of the significant improvement the applicant had made to the appearance and condition of the land and building.

The acoustic report proved vital to promoting the planning arguments for retaining the use, which provides local employment and an apprenticeship and understanding other businesses in the area and the way the council had successfully controlled their impact through planning conditions.

Conditional approval was granted by Southampton City Council 2.8.2019 under reference 19/01027/FUL, with the client very happy with ACHIEVE’s help to stay in business.
